Me, Myself and I

Using brennt (burning) as a synonym for a paul kalkbrenner record suggests itself. it seems he reserved this title for a very special occasion. brennt sounds like a new variation of kalkbrenner`s sound-spectrum, which used to be based on a constant continuity as it was last seen on zeit. is paul kalkbrenner now looking back on his output with an rather relaxed laissez-faire-attitude? in this context the title track presents itself the following way: the tight woven sounds create a new kind of atmospheric deepness - a cross-over of straightness and melancholy. the deepness of the sound is typical for all of the tracks. the hypnotic track vineta is more offensive due to its broken bass-line. on dampf (steam) the solid groove is dominating again and paul kalkbrenner develops his idea of techno.

a new sound with an urge to move emerges from minimal reductionism and repetition. salz & pfeffer can be considered as its continuation and is at the same time the most experimental track on this record. starting with nothing but a straight bass-line the track develops a more and more sophisticated sound structure. modulations and dry break-beats alternate on this track. the motive behind salz & pfeffer is obvious: fast forward.
